FORT BRAGG, Calif., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ — The scenic roads of Mendocino County, from giant redwoods to ruggedly beautiful coastline, are a motorcycle rider’s paradise and the seaside town of Fort Bragg, California the ultimate destination. One avid rider said its roads “defy the senses … with endless twists and turns.”
With that in mind, Surf motel and Gardens is offering motorcyclists special rates to stay at his renovated lodge with expansive gardens: 10 percent off the AAA rate (the lowest rate); an additional discount will be offered for groups of 10 riders or more.
“We are centrally located, near the junction of Highways 1 and 20, and offer a area for large group barbecues and picnics,” explained owner Govind Reddy, whose motel is just a few blocks from the ocean.
For many local clubs, Fort Bragg is the site of at least one major outing each year. Typically, a major ride is a three-day event that includes the first day trip to Fort Bragg and a second-day ride of 70-100 miles, followed by an evening club meeting, barbecue and party. The final day is a shorter Coast ride before returning home.
They come from Germany, Great Britain, France, and Japan in search of America’s most scenic roads and make Fort Bragg their headquarters for awe-inspiring motorcycle rides with ocean views and redwood forests.
Both on and off-road enthusiasts from around the world — many post-retirement baby boomers — fly into San Francisco, Oakland or Sacramento where they rent motorcycles for the 3-hour trip to the Mendocino Coast in Northern California.
According to Pahnit.com, , a popular motorcycle tours site, “A few minutes north of Fort Bragg is a 22-mile stretch of Hwy 1 that defies the senses. Riders are often befuddled that such a road could even exist! Perfect tarmac, light traffic, and endless twists and turns as we ride up and over two mountain ranges arriving in the midst of a Redwood Forest.”
Prime riding time on the Mendocino Coast is from February to October. Except for the rainiest days, the Coast is considered an ideal spot for year-around riding because of the temperate climate where temperatures average mid-fifties (12C-13C) summer, fall and winter.
